What is Bags of Blessings?

The Bags of Blessings ministry at Union Grove Baptist Church offers a compassionate, respectful, and welcoming food-distribution service to our community. Open to all in need, this ministry provides grocery bags of shelf-stable items, along with frozen items (and often fresh produce when available) to families and individuals on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays each month, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

    • Location: Union Grove Baptist Church, 1808 Union Grove Road, Lenoir, NC 28645.
    • Date/time: 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
    • All visitors: Please bring a photo ID with current address or a current bill reflecting your current address (As noted by our local association.)
    • A simple “drive-up” distribution: you arrive during the time window, register (or show ID if first time), and receive a bag of groceries and other shelf-stable items, as they will be loaded in your vehicle.
    • Volunteers from the church and local partners serve together, making sure the process is smooth, fast, free of judgment and open to anyone in need.
    • Because supplies vary, we encourage arriving early. Typically the distribution continues until supplies last.
    • No cost to the recipient; everything is provided through donations and ministry support.

  • A friendly welcome, simple registration (ID + address if it’s your first visit), drive-up service, and a grocery bag sized to meet immediate needs. There may also be fresh produce or other special items depending on donations.  If you have something we could pray with you about, please let us know, as we would gladly welcome any opportunity to pray with you.  While you’re here, feel free to ask for information about other resources in the community—our volunteers can point you to additional services.

How you can help

  • Donate items: non-perishable food, canned meats, pasta, cereal, fresh produce (when available), or financial support designated for the ministry.
  • Volunteer your time: on distribution evenings, or help with sorting, packing and prepping during the days ahead.
  • Pray with us: for those we serve, for the volunteers, and for the resources needed to keep this ministry thriving.
  • Spread the word: If someone you know is facing food hardship in Lenoir or Caldwell County, please let them know about Bags of Blessings.

Why we do it

At Union Grove, we believe God calls us to love our neighbors and to serve those who are facing food insecurity, unexpected financial burdens or life challenges. Through Bags of Blessings, we seek to offer more than groceries—we extend dignity, hope and a warm smile. Every bag may meet a physical need, but our vision is for it to also reflect how God loves each one of us and meets our needs.

Community Impact

According to the Caldwell Baptist Association, the goal for the Bags of Blessings ministry is to serve 450-650 families each distribution evening.  That kind of outreach is making a real difference in reflecting God’s love in our community, as He’s called us to love and serve others.
